Artist&Pianist
Being a creative, as I have mentioned in previous blogs, means that creativity is not confined to just one art form. While the piano remains my primary outlet, I have two other great passions that continuously fuel my artistic expression: gastronomy and bookbinding. These disciplines not only expand my creativity but also provide invaluable lessons that enhance my musical artistry.
Cooking has been a lifelong fascination for me. I explore different cuisines, challenge myself by limiting ingredients, and uncover new possibilities within the constraints. Every dish is an opportunity to experiment, much like improvising at the piano—playing with textures, contrasts, and unexpected harmonies.
Bookbinding, on the other hand, serves as a meditative practice that restores focus and precision. I discovered this craft years ago during a period when I had an abundance of time, and I quickly realized how intricate and demanding the process is. Binding a book requires patience, meticulous attention to detail, and an appreciation for refinement. Whether working with leather, parchment, or embossed covers, the process mirrors the discipline required in music and cooking.
This dedication to precision and artistry has profoundly shaped my approach to music. The extra effort—perfecting a culinary technique, ensuring a book’s binding is flawless, or refining a musical passage—may not take much additional time, but it demands patience and a clear mind. This is where true artistry begins. Once the technical aspects of a craft are mastered and become second nature, creative freedom emerges, allowing one’s unique artistic voice to flourish.
The interplay between different art forms is crucial for a well-rounded creative life. Studying other disciplines—be it literature, painting, or historical research—offers fresh perspectives and a deeper understanding of music. Researching the cultural and historical contexts in which compositions were written allows for a more profound interpretation, enriching both performance and audience experience.
Living a creative life means breathing creativity in all aspects of existence. It is not something confined to a practice room, a concert hall, or a studio—it is an ever-present force that influences every moment. Without it, life feels stifling.
For those who seek to embrace a world of artistic refinement, whether through music, fine dining, or craftsmanship, creativity remains the driving force behind every pursuit.
